News appeared in both Prager Morgenpost and Bohemia 21/11/1858 of a Veni Sancte, a celebratory church service often given at the start of a new year of activity of a public institution or society, to be held on St Cecilia’s Day - 22 November - by the Music Institute of J. Proksch in the Church of Our Lady of Týn. The high mass was to be led by the Prelate-Archdeacon of St Vitus, Josef Ritter von Rauch. Both sources noted that especially for this occasion F. Bendel, a former pupil of this Institute had composed a Mass, and that this would be perfomed alongside a Veni Sancte by Schnabel and a Pater noster setting and a Psalm by Proksch.
Franz Bendel at this time was a pupil of Liszt, and had already gained a substantial reputation throughout Europe as a piano virtuoso.
