Proksch, Josef (1793-1864), Music pedagogue. One of the leading, most respected and influential Czech teachers of both piano and music theory active in Prague during the middle nineteenth century. In 1830 Proksch opened in the city his own private Music Institute, which aside from its activities as a centre for music teaching also contributed to Prague musical life through regular concert productions and performance examinations which the public were able to attend.
