A theatre bill announcing this event was published by Prager Morgenpost 3/6/1863. The source related: ‘Theatre. Wednesday, 3rd June 1863. (Subscription [event] Nr. 140). Concert of the brothers Doppler, from the Royal Court Opera Theatre in Wienna. 1. Concerto in D minor, for 2 flutes with accompaniment of orchestra, composed by Franz Doppler, member of the Royal Court Orchestra, performed by himself and Mr Carl [Karl] Doppler. – 2. Aria from the opera „Die Favoritin“ [La Favorite], sung by Miss Zawiszanka. – 3. Phantasie for 2 flutes on themes from the opera „Die Nachtwandlerin“ [La Sonnambula], composed and performed by the brothers Doppler. – 4. Aria from the opera „Othello“, sung by Miss Zawiszanka. – 5. „Souvenir de Prague“ Concert-Duo for 2 flutes, composed and performed by the brothers Doppler.’ The notice then related: ‘Beforehand: Die Hochzeitsreise. Comedy in 2 acts by Roderich Benedix... Commencing 7 o’clock. Ending 9.30pm.’ A virtually identical theatre bill was published by the German-language newspaper Bohemia 3/6/1863.
Prager Morgenpost 4/6/1863 published a review, signed ‘-ý.’ of this event. The correspondent remarked: ‘Concert. Yesterday, the two flutists, the brothers Doppler, of the Court Opera Theatre in Vienna, gave in the Estates Theatre their first concert, the applause preceded them bearing testimony to their great renown. The strength of mastery over their instrument that these virtuosi have, their impeccable accuracy and perfection in overcoming all manner of difficulties, was discernible immediately in the D minor Concerto composer by Franz Doppler (for two flutes with orchestral accompaniment). These artists know very well how to surprise and to dazzle: to captivate and to move through a noble, expressive performance...’ Their playing was then noted to have been characterized by an excellent tone, even in the high notes of the instrument’s register, and by a very mellow cantilena. ‘Miss Zawiszanka supported the concert-givers through the performance of two opera arias. The success of the concert was brilliant, the attendance quite numerous [ziemlich zahlreich].’
The composer of the opera Othello was most likely Rossini. A second concert was given by the brothers in the Estates Theatre on 5/6/1863.
