Franz Doppler

Doppler, Franz (1821-1883). Flute player and composer, member of the Court Opera orchestra in Vienna. Born in Lemberg (now Lviv, Ukraine). Toured Europe with his brother Karl as flute virtuosi before becoming members of, firstly, the German Theatre and then the National Theatre in Budapest. Franz then became flutist in the Vienna Court Opera as well as conductor. He was also Professor of Flute at the Vienna Conservatoire from 1864 to 1867. In addition to a large quantity of flute music he also wrote and had performed several operas.
