komentář:

Prager Morgenpost 5/4/1862 reported that ‘The German singing society “Flöte” arranges this evening in the Hall “Bohemia” on the bastion an evening entertainment.’ No further details were given by the source. A review was published by the newpaper on 7/4/1862 reporting that ‘The evening entertainment, which the German singing society “die Flöte” arranged the day before last in the Hall “Bohemia”, attracted a refined circle of guests, that in comfortable germanic fashion [in gemüthlicher deutscher Weise] celebrated an exhilirating festival. Beautiful society was also present through the attendance of many young ladies, who contributed to enlivening the entertainment. The programme of the soirée itself was very felicitous combining declamations of humorous content with solo pieces for male voices of different styles. The precision with which all of the pieces were performed, was a beautiful testimony to the achievements of this young but hopeful German singing society. Among the programme numbers were “Des Kriegers Abschied”, solo for bass by Abt; Bittschrift by Fr. von Schiller (declamation); “Den schönen Heil” chorus by Reinhardt; “Liedesfreiheit” chorus by Marschner; “Des Sängers Fluch” by Uhland (declamation); “Die Thräne”, solo for baritone by Hölzel, and more. It needs barely to be said that each of the pieces found substantial applause. In particular the performances of the songs “An die deutsche Trikolore” and “Was ist des deutschen Vaterland?” caused a storm of applause. The society dispersed long after midnight, this “German soirée” of unalloyed happy gathering.’ The text ended with German-patriotic reference to Schiller and a call to ‘Do not forget the German language! And raise a black-gold [the German colours] coat of arms .’

The review text was notable for its emphasis on the Germanic bias of this concert.
