Gustav Hölzel

Hölzel, Gustav (1813-1883). Austrian singer and composer. The son of a singer, his early life was largely spent touring before he was engaged at the Vienna Hofoper in 1840. Performed in many important operatic rôles, creating the part of Beckmesser in 1868. Also productive as a song composer.
