komentář:

Bohemia 11/6/1850 published news of the intention of Mr Whit, Kapellmeister of the ensemble of the Imperial Infantry Regiment of Baron Wimpffen, to give a benefit performance on ‘25th June’ [possibly a misprint, the event actually took place on 15th June] in the Arboretum [Stromovka] in aid of funds for Czech invalids [des böhmischen Invalidenfondes]. During the event his ensemble would perform ‘a great Tone-painting [ein großes Tongemälde] entitled “Die Schlacht bei Moor”.’ Given the humanitarian aim of the occasion, a large audience was expected.

Additional details about this event were announced by Bohemia 14/6/1850. A report related that ‘The Festival, which together with his musical ensemble Mr Kapellmeister Whit arranges tomorrow for the benefit of the fund for Czech invalids, and for which he has composed a tone-picture entitled “Schlacht bei Moor”, carries the title “Patriotenfest” and ends with a soirée dansante and with fireworks.’ The term ‘soirée dansante’ was highlighted through the use of a Latin typeface. In a separate announcement the newspaper also reported that Whit had composed a mass, and that the work would be performed.

The ‘Invaliden’ noted by the above report most likely referred to injured military personel.
