komentář:

News of this soirée was published by Bohemia 30/3/1860, noting that ‘This afternoon at 5 o’clock takes place in the Konvikt Hall a Soirée musicale by the Music Institute of Mr Jul. Höger, in which Messrs Bennewitz, Paulus and Prof. Goltermann participate.’ The time of the event was also listed in the Tageskalender record of that same newspaper on 30/3/1860.

According to the Dalibor review, signed ‘-ka.’, the violinist in the chamber works was Antonín Benevic [Bennewitz] and the ’cellist was Julius Goltermann. The viola player in Mozart’s Quartet was not identified. Other participants performing in the concert were listed as Alb. Mildner, Em. Schwab, Miss Helena Wallerová, and Miss E.B. Pilzová, although their specific rôles cannot be ascertained. The concert was notable for the appearance of the then sixteen year old prodigy Karel Šebor. In 1860 Šebor was a pupil of the violin at the Conservatory, and was already prolific as a composer, having had an overture performed in the second of the season’s three annual Conservatory concerts on 18/3/1860. His performance of the Galopp by Vilém Graf was described by the Dalibor critic as being ‘dexterous and precise.’ The programme is reproduced in order corresponding with the Dalibor review. The arranger of the two works given for 4 pianos was not specified; a version of the Tannhäuser Overture for 4 pianos exists by Smetana and had recently been performed before this event.
