Prager Morgenpost 17/2/1863 published news, signed ‘– § –’, reporting: ‘Arion. The German Singing Society „Arion“ will give a Festival on 22nd February, the anniversary of its founding. This takes place in the Žofín Island Hall at 5pm.’
A review, signed ‘=’, of this event was published by Prager Morgenpost 23/2/1863. The correspondent related: ‘Founding Festival of the „Arion“ [Gründungsfeier]. The German Singing Society „Arion“ commemorated the anniversary of its founding through a musical festival, to which an extraordinary number of guests assembled in the Žofín Island Hall. The Hall was close to being full, even the galleries with gentlemen and particularly with lady listeners were completely occupied. The Founding Festival was introduced with a witty ode by Alfr. Meissner, which, taking up the name of the society, the Myth of the „Master of Song“ [Meister des Gesangs], wove in the aspirations and endeavours of the Singing Society in a spirited fashion. The Prologue was effectively spoken by Mr Hallenstein. The society members sang very accurately two choruses: „Deutschland für immer“, a male-voice chorus by E. Tauwitz, and „Ueber die Berge“, male-voice chorus by F. Abt, for which they earnt considerable applause. Particularly spirited applause was also gained by Mrs Burggraf for her expressive [gefühlvoll] performance of a poem, as well as [by] Mr Nachbauer, who sang „Des Sängers Abschied“ Of the other pieces it is fitting to mention that Mr F. Brava gave the „Concerto in E-flat major by L. van Beethoven for piano“ with orchestra accompaniment to the fullest effect. – The Festival followed a social entertainment in the venue of the Society.’ No further details of the event were given by this source.
