Bohemia 8/4/1854 published in its Local- und Provinzialchronik record of daily local news that ‘Tomorrow on Palm Sunday will be performed in the church of St James at 9.30 o’clock Passion choruses [Passionschöre] composed by Mr Krejčí, then the „Kyrie“ from the F minor Mass of the same. The remaining part of the music is made up of the vocal Mass by Jos. Schnabel in D minor with an Offertorium by M. Haydn.’
The eighth supplement of Lumír 1854, published on 8/4/1854, reported that ‘Tomorrow on Palm Sunday will be a performance of a new Passion by the director of the chorus, Mr Krejčí, and Kyrie in F minor by the same, offertorium by M. Haydn, the Mass by Josef Schnabel.’ No further details were given by this source.
The item by Krejčí was unlikely to have been a complete setting of the Passion given the additional content of the programme and of the incorporation of a Mass and interludes. Undoubtedly the work comprised one or more of the set of 34 Passion choruses Krejčí had recently published at the publisher Hoffmann in Prague.
