Ludwig Jeschko

Ješko, Ludevít (?-1861). Military music Kapellmeister and composer. Active in Prague during the late 1850s, achieving considerable success and popular local acclaim as the director of the military music ensemble of the 16th Infantry Regiment of Baron von Wernhardt. His numerous compositions comprised almost exclusively dance music. His death in Munich in December 1861 from pneumonia was widely reported by the Prague press. Prager Morgenpost 14/12/1861 reported that ‘Kapellmeister L. Jeschko [Ješko], well known in local dance-society through his compositions and his orchestra, has recently died in Munich.’ The Prague German-language newspaper Politik reported on 1/9/1863 that a benefit concert given recently in Wiesbaden in aid of the late Ješko’s family had raised 1683fl, 400fl of which were being given to each of the Kapellmeister’s three children.
