A review of this event was published by Mercy’s Anzeiger 10/8/1854. The correspondent, whose report was prefaced by an emdash and an asterisk ‘—*’, related: ‘On 7th August took place in the Hall of Žofín Island the Examination Production of pupils of Proksch’s Musical Institute. By no means did the programme contain much that was shallow or pointless but select compositions chosen with the finest taste [written] by Gluck, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Liszt, Thalberg. In the performance of these pieces the students gave real evidence of their splendid musical education. Over a long time many pupils have graduated from this Institute, gaining a level worthy of attention as teachers, composers and virtuosi in the artistic world. It is not to be doubted that several of these very auspicious talents whom we were made aware of upon this occasion can look forward to such beautiful success as [achieved by] their predecessors.’
