Sigismond Thalberg

Thalberg, Sigismond (1812-1871). Austrian pianist and composer. Son of Count Moritz Dietrichstein and Baroness Wetzlar. Studied music in Vienna from the age of 10. He soon acquired a reputation as a virtuoso and embarked upon his first concert tour of Germany in 1830. His later travels as a performer took him to Paris and London (1835 and 1836). Active as a composer, primarily for the piano but also writing a substantial body of songs as well as two operas.
