Národní listy 25/7/1862 reported that public performance examinations for pupils of the Music Institute of Ignác Jelínek would take place on 26 July and 27 July, on both days at 9am and 4pm. The school was noted to be located in the Little Quarter nr.273. No further details were given by this source.
These examinations may have been indirectly described in a review published in Lumír 7/8/1862 covering examination events in Prague music teaching institutes taking place over the summer months. The correspondent noted that insufficient space was available in Lumír to report in detail upon all such events. However, the source reported that examinations in all piano institutes had been ‘for the most part good, in some places even excellent... [pupils demonstrated] their technique, their clean touch, able performance and other good qualities, which is of great credit to the directors and teachers of their institute.’ After briefly praising several identified institutes, other schools were generally dismissed with the remark that they ‘performed once agan old hackneyed compositions, of which the greater part were without worth.’ Jelinek’s institute, not specifically mentioned earlier in this review, possibly fell into this category.
