• Music Institute of Petr Maydl: participating institution

Bohema 20/7/1862 reported that ‘The annual examination-production for the pupils of P. Maydl’s Music Institute begin on Monday (21st [July]) in the Konvikt Hall and will continue on 22nd and 23rs. The concert-production [Concert-Production] takes place on 23rd at 3.30pm in which will be performed several concert-pieces with orchestral accompaniment.’ This issue of the newspaper published no further details of this event. An almost identically worded report giving the same information was published by Prager Zeitung 20/7/1862.

Bohemia 22/7/1862 reported ‘10am. Žofín Island Hall. Examination-production of pupils of the Music Institute of Peter Maydl.’

Brief comment about these examinations was published in Lumír 7/8/1862 in a review covering similar events in Prague music teaching institutes over the summer months. The correspondent noted that insufficient space was available in Lumír to report in detail upon all such events. However, the critic reported that examinations in all piano institutes had been ‘for the most part good, in some places even excellent... [pupils demonstrated] their technique, their clean touch, able performance and other good qualities, which is of great credit to the directors and teachers of their institute... As to the performances and the arrangement of the programme, the institute of Mr Th. Höger and less so that of Mr P. Maydl was very well satisfying ’
