komentář:

This concert in aid of lunches for poor law students was held on the same day and at the same time as the first of the 1862 season of concerts given by the Prague Conservatory. Národní listy 8/4/1862 reported that the occasion made a profit of 1521zl. The programme is reproduced in performance order according to the report noting the date, time, venue, programme and participants that was published by Národní listy 14/3/1862 and Prager Morgenpost 14/3/1862. The orchestra performing in this event would have been that of the German Estates Theatre as in previous annual benefit events for this cause. The conductor of the orchestra was not specified by contemporary periodical source reports.

A brief, unsigned review of this event was published by Prager Zeitung 20/3/1862. The correspondent reported that ‘The concert arranged for the benefit of fund for free meals for law students on Sunday at 12 noon in the Žofín Island Hall had a very numerous audience and was universally praised, despite taking place at the same time as the first concert of the Conservatory. Although the number of pieces performed was slight, they were well-chosen and the performances themselves received warm approbation. The audience were especially animated at the song performances of Misses Lukka [Luccová] and Mick [Miková], so that the second duet by Mendelssohn-Bartholdy on general demand had to be encored. The young pianist Miss von Altenburger, who with soulful expression performed a concerto by Hummel with orchestral accompaniment, gained substantial applause.’
