The dates of the events that made up this series of ‘Musical Garlands’ were advertised well in advance in two daily German-language Prague newspapers. Prager Morgenpost 10/10/1858 published an advertisement noting that this year’s series of ‘Musikalischen [musikalisches] Kränchen [Musical garlands]’ were to be held in the Konvikt hall on the Saturdays of 16, 23, 30 October, 6, 13, 20, 27 November and 4, 11 and 18 December. Prager Zeitung 10/10/1858 published the same information but in a different wording as an item of news in the section Prager und Provinzial-Nachrichten.
More detailed news of this specific event appeared in news published by Prager Morgenpost 12/11/1858, in an advertisement in Prager Morgenpost on the following day, and in news appearing in the newspaper Bohemia 13/11/1858. The former article reported the connection of the ‘Musical Garland’ event with the Radetzky Festival and listed the programme of the entertainment. The following Morgenpost advertisement noted that the event would commence at 7pm and that admission would be 12kr. The brief Bohemia news text also noted that the event would be part of wider celebrations for the Radetzky Festival then being held in Prague, the highpoint of which involved the unveiling of a monument for the Austrian General, by incorporporating into the programme a male-voice choruses Ruhe der Krieger [Peace of the Warrior] with an accompaniment of 2 flutes and 2 horns. The composer of this composition was not specified. Of the six other numbers making up the programme Bohemia identified only the last, Škroup’s male-voice chorus Potok [Stream].
