The daily news section of Mercy’s Anzeiger 28/3/1857 reported that ‘The third and last Soirée musicale in the Music Institute of Mr Cölestin Müller will take place on 29th of this month at 5pm and has an attractive programme.’ This issue of the newspaper also reported that the annual general meeting of the Humanitarian Musical Society was to take place on Sunday 29th March in the locale of that Society. Müller’s Institute and the Humanitarian Musical Society were synonymous.
Tagesbote aus Böhmen 4/4/1857 published a resumé of the recent series of events given by Müller’s Institute: ‘This year too Mr Müller arranged a number of productions in the premises of his Institute at the close of the winter season, and a review of these offers a very satisfactory impression and the best conviction of the methods and consistency of the Director of this Institute. His programme encompassed many pieces in the Classical taste arranged for four or more pianos, notably overtures by Spontini, Tomaschek, Riess, the Prize-Symphony by Schubert [‘die Preis-Symfonie von Schubert’], Concert pieces by Weber and Hummel, Mendelssohn’s March from A Midsummer Night’s Dream and others, in very precise ensemble performances. The individual performances demonstrated a significant number of prettier, well-schooled talents, some of which, like the ladies Bož. Swoboda, Louise Beyer, Giřikowsky, Urban, and the gentlemen Hořejschek, Riedl, were of a significant artistic height and performed the greatest tasks satisfactorily.’The programme details given by this report, which obviously encompassed all of the events in the series, are listed in the database programme record to this third soirée.
