Details of this events appeared in an advertisment published in Národní listy 21/1/1861. This noted that tickets for the occasion could be purchased from 12 noon each day between 21 and 30 January from the inn ‘At the Blue Star’ [u modré hvězdy], no.17, on the first floor. The committee organizing the beseda stipulated that those attending should wear coat-tails. Entrance for ladies to the beseda was free. The same advertisement was published again in Národní listy on 24, 26, 27 and 30 January.
Successful nnual benefit balls in aid of poor medical students commenced in 1861 and constituted one of the highlights of the dance season. For the first two years, according to a report published by Prager Morgenpost 2/11/1863, they were ‘German’ in character, however the report noted that the next ball would be ‘cosmopolitan’ character with the [Czech] waistcoat [Čamara] as numerous as the [German] coat and tails.
