Tagesbote aus Böhmen 11/1/1858 reported that ‘The solemn Requiem Mass which is being arranged by Prague Magistrates for the Field Marshal Radetzky [Count Radetzky von Radetz], takes place today at 10am in the Týn Church. Mozart’s Requiem will be performed.’
A report of the event, prefixed by the signature ‘=’, appeared in Tagesbote aus Böhmen 12/1/1858. The correspondent noted ‘To the Requiem for the late Field Marshal, His Excellency the Count von Radetzky, that was arranged by the city authorities at 10 o'clock yesterday morning in the Týn church, there flocked such an extraordinary number of people that all parts of the church were filled. The high altar, as well as the two side altars were covered with black cloth and adorned with the coat of arms of the deceased. The pews were covered in black. In the middle of the presbytery stood a tall mourning catafalque, decorated with countless wax candles and coats of arms. The honour guard was executed by the Royal Warranted Civil Guards, the sabre arch formed by divisions of the Civil Infantry Corps. During the funeral mass celebrated by the most venerable university pastor and pastor of Týn, the Honorary Dean P. Heinrich, the great Mozart requiem was performed by the best artists of our city. The leader of the Municipal Authority the Mayor Dr. Waňka at the head, as well as all members of the various municipal offices, took the places of honour in the black-lined pews.’
Recording that the performance included ‘the best artists of our city’ suggests the participation of the leading Prague musicial institutions, most likely the forces of the Estates Theatre and of the Prague Conservatory.
