Today production of Mr Soukup with his optical-mechanical performing theatre [‘mit seinem optisch-mechanischen Kunst-Theatre’]. Notably: The Burning of Moscow [Der Brand von Moskau – this would have been the title of the theatrical performance]. Followed by Garden concert of the Regimental Ensemble of the worthy Royal Infantry Regiment Archduke Sigismund. Commencing 4 o’clock. All details given on the bill poster.’

The description of Soukup’s contribution as ‘optical-mechanical’ perhaps suggests this was a mechanical marionette theatre.
