Národní listy 10/1/1863 reported in its section of daily news: ‘Large musical ensemble of Sokol plays today 10th January at the Inn of Šáry.’ An advertisement for the event was also published in this issue of the Czech newspaper. Unusually for this type of source the programme was listed: ‘At Šáry’s plays today 10th January the great musical ensemble of „Sokol“ Programme: 1. Pochod [March] by Siede. 2. Josefinka Polka by Sladkovský 3. Slavnostní kvapík [Festive galop] by Preis. 3. „La jalouse“ Polka mazur by Flögel. 5. Overture „La muette de Portici“ by Auber. 6. České děvče [Czech girls] Polka mazur by Preisler. 7. Solo for clarinet, performed by Mr Horká, member of the ensemble. 8. Quadrille á la cour by Svoboda. 9. Leobenská [Leobner] Polka by Absenger. 10. Ruský valčík [Russian waltz] by Siede. 11. Kytice [Garland] Polka mazur by Faulvetr [Faulwetter]. 12. Rychlík [Express] kvapík by Žežulak. Commencing 7 o’clock.’ A musical rehearsal of key works that would be given by the Sokol ensemble during the 1863 Carnival season took place in the Žofín Hall on 6/1/1863. A similar programme to this 10/1/1863 event took place a week later in Schary’s Beer hall on 17/1/1863.
