Prager Morgenpost 25/2/1863 published a notice posted by the festival committee of the Deutsche Casino concerning this event: ‘From the German Casino [Vom deutsche Kasino]. The Festival Supper in the German Casino on 25th February takes place not at 8 o’clock but at 9 o’clock in the evening. The Gentlemen are to appear in black tail coats and with white bow ties. The Festival Committee.’ On the following day Prager Morgenpost 26/2/1863 published a substantial review of the occasion, signed ‘+’. The correspondent wrote: ‘Banquet for the Constitution Festival in the Casino [Bankett zur Verfassungsfeier im Kasino], (formerly the Merchants’ Society) [Kaufmännischer Verein]. The eve of the Constitution Day of this Society [i.e. the anniversary of the day upon which the founding constitution of the Sociey was formally ratified] was celebrated in an exalted manner. In the brilliantly decorated and brightly lit room over 130 guests gathered, among which were the gentlemen of the Imperial Council Brosche, Krása, Ritter von Lämel and several other Estates deputies, the leading figures of Industrial Prague [Spitzen der Industriellen Prags], numerous staff officers [Stabsoffiziere], Theatre members and other guests. Also attending was His Excellency the Minister of State [Staatsminister] and the committee of the Society; Mr von Zdekauer awaited their presence on the steps of the Society’s locale. After the [performance in the Estates] Theatre had ended, the State Minister accompanied by Baron von Kellersperg, Police Director Ullmann, Governor [Staathaltereirathes] Ritter von Bach arrived and were lead through the prepared entrance hall, transformed into a living garden with camelia shrubs [Kamäliensträuche] and other plants, and decorated with statues by Mr von Schmerling. Mr von Zdekauer had prepared the following speech to the State Minister: „Your Excellency, graciously permit reverent greetings to you. I am at a loss to convey the appropriate words to express to Your Excellency our feelings of gratitude and delight. May Your Excellency feel half so well in these friendly rooms, as we are proud and happy to welcome Your Excellency to the same.“ The Master of Ceremonies opened Champagne and in its wake came the customary toast. To begin with Mr von Zdekaur opened with the following words: „I take the liberty of opening the series of toasts in which I invite You, my Lord, to offer a Hail to our sublime Monarch, under whose glorious regime Art and Science, Trade and Industry have experienced so mighty a rally [einen so mächtigen Aufschwung]. To toast His Majesty our merciful Emperor, Hail!“ The Senior Prosecutor [Oberstaatsanwalt] Dr Ludwig dedicated his toast to the constitution, Mr Pleschner, a townsman from Eichstädt [possibly Eichstätt, a Bavarian town near the Bohemian border rather than Eichstädt, a village in Brandenburg] gave his toast to the State Minister, presented a few hearty words to those assembled, and ended with an enthusiastic ‘Hail!’ to the loyal inhabitants of the beautiful city of Prague. Mr von Zdekauer presented a Hail to the Authorities, „under whose splendid leadership in the last decade so much that is great and mighty has occurred.“ Mr S. Schlesinger, Inspector General of the „Anker“ offered an emotive toast to all those present, who through their numerous participation in the Festival had made so imposing an impression, after which there followed several other toasts, the cheerful tones of a musical ensemble mixed with the loud cheers and the convivial conversation of the guests, combined in animated voicein the friendly room past midnight.’ No further details of the event were given by the source. The musical ensemble performing at the occasion was not identified.
