Commentary:

Národní listy 14/9/1862 reported that ‘[Prague male voice singing society] Hlahol is contributing to celebrate the festival of St Ludmila, which falls on 16th September. As is known, on this day will be opened ths church of St George on Hradčany. The festival will take place at 10am.’ No further details of this event were published by this issue of the newspaper.

Bohemia 15/9/1862 also published news of this event, noting that ‘(The old church of St George) on Hradschin [Hradčany] will, as every year, be open all day tomorrow on the festival of Ludmila. A celebratory high mass will be performed by members of the “Hlahol” under the direction of Lukes.’

The link between St Ludmila’s day and the venue of St George’s stemmed from the Saint’s remains being interred there.
