Commentary:

Mercy’s Anzeiger 22/3/1857 published a brief report that ‘Today, 22nd March at 6pm takes place the second Soirée musicale in the musical institute of Cölestin Müller. A very attractive programme is announced for this.’ No further details were given by the source.

Tagesbote aus Böhmen 4/4/1857 published a resumé of the recent series of events given by Müller’s Institute: ‘This year too Mr Müller arranged a number of productions in the premises of his Institute at the close of the winter season, and a review of these offers a very satisfactory impression and the best conviction of the methods and consistency of the Director of this Institute. His programme encompassed many pieces in the Classical taste arranged for four or more pianos, notably overtures by Spontini, Tomaschek, Riess, the Prize-Symphony by Schubert [‘die Preis-Symfonie von Schubert’], Concert pieces by Weber and Hummel, Mendelssohn’s March from A Midsummer Night’s Dream and others, in very precise ensemble performances. The individual performances demonstrated a significant number of prettier, well-schooled talents, some of which, like the ladies Bož. Swoboda, Louise Beyer, Giřikowsky, Urban, and the gentlemen Hořejschek, Riedl, were of a significant artistic height and performed the greatest tasks satisfactorily.’

Summary details of works performed during this series of three events, taken from the Tagesbote aus Böhmen 4/4/1857 report, are noted in the database programme record of the third event taking place on
