A report, signed ‘-r’, was published by Mercy’s Anzeiger 16/2/1857 noting that on Sunday 22nd February would take place in the Žofín Hall the annually arranged Society Ball for the benefit of the reorganized Institute for the Poor. Music was to be performed by the Civil Sharpshooters Corps ensemble under the leadership of their Kapellmeister Mr Komsak [Komzák].
A brief, unsigned review appeared in Mercy’s Anzeiger 25/2/1857. The correspondent remarked that the event was very numerously attended, and that among the cards read out announcing those attending were the Mayor Dr Wanka, the Director in chief of the Institute for the Poor, Karl von Helly, and several other directors. The arrangements for the occasion were praised, although no other details of the event or of its musical content were noted. On 4/3/1857 the newspaper reported that the gross takings of the event were 1416fl 49kr, the expenses 245fl and the net profit 1171fl 49kr.
