Bohemia 10/6/1854 published news, signed ‘z.’, that ‘Under the title “Swoboda’s farewell from Prague”, a military music entertainment will take place on Sunday 11th June on Žofín Island.’ Der Tagesbote published more detailed advance information about the occasion, although unfortunately, probably in error, the report did not appear in the newspaper until 25th June. This text reported that the participating ensemble would be that of the Infantry Regiment of Prince Gustav von Wasa, and that given the event was the last in which Swoboda [Svoboda] would appear as director of the ensemble it would without doubt go on to enjoy particular success.

Mercy’s Anzeiger 10/6/1854 reported that ‘The staging of the musical Farewell Festival [Abschiedsfeste], that was to have taken place yesterday (9th June) on the Žofín Island, had had to be postponed until a better due to the unfriendly weather, and after several pieces had been already played.’ On the following day, 11/6/1854 the newspaper reported ‘On the Žofín Island takes place today Sunday a great music producion, whose title is “Swoboda’s Farewell from Prague”.’

Mercy’s Anzeiger 5/5/1854 published a notice announcing ‘Great orchestra of the Royal Military; afternoons. On the Žofín Island: Tuesday, Friday, Sunday; in Zdekauer’s (formerly Count Canal’s Garden): Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday; in the Estates Arboretum: Sunday and Thursday.’ No further details were given by the source. The event reported by the above Bohemia text would have constituted one of the entertainments in this series on the Žofín Island.
