The German-language daily Prague newspaper Tagesbote aus Böhmen 19/3/1854 published news of this event, reporting that ‘Yesterday, accompanied by trumpets and drumrolls, a weather vane was positioned on the centrepost on the new roof of the Old Town water tower. From the spire the carpenters drank ten toasts and then threw down their glasses.’ The action caused consternation amongst the public and dignitaries congregated below, the correspondent noting that someone might have been hurt. No further details of the occasion or its musical content were given by this source.
