Commentary:

Advance news of this event was reported by Bohemia 20/10/1850, noting that on ‘Sunday 27th October Mr Stuchlý arranges in the Apollo Hall [recently opened] a musical entertainment under the title: “Revue musicale”. The favourite band of von Wimpffen will participate.’ Additional information was published by Bohemia 25/10/1850, reporting ‘At the Soirée entitled “Revue musicale” to be given on Sunday in the new, elegant Apollo Hall, Mr Kapellmeister Whitt [Whit] will perform in addition to many new opera pieces also a Slawen-Potpourri by Miss Mathilde Ringelsberg named “Telegraphe de Carneval 1851” of such newly composed dance pieces as: Karnevalsgrüße, Tom-Pouce-Polka, Sturmgalop, Apollo-Polka, Krakauer-Mazur and Tambour-Polka.’ This event was not listed for this date in the Tagesanzeiger text of Bohemia 25/10/1850. However, the Tagesanzeiger of Bohemia 27/10/1850 specified that in the afternoon of Sunday 27th October in the Apollo Hall would be a Musical Soirée [Musikalisches Soirée]. No further details were given by this Tagesanzeiger text.

A report of Miss Ringelsberg having composed a work containing ‘many dances (1 Waltz, 1 Galop, 3 Polkas and 1 Mazurka)’
under the title ‘Telegraphe de Carneval 1850’ appeared in Bohemia 20/10/1850. The designation ‘1850’ by this earlier report was most likely incorrect. New dance compositions would be intended for the forthcoming carnival season which commenced after 6th January 1851.

A brief review, unsigned, of this event was published by Bohemia 29/10/1850. This reported that the musical soirée given the day before yesterday in the Apollo Hall drew an exceptionally numerous audience and that the entire space of the Hall was packed. The masterly ensemble-playing of the band of the Infantry Regiment Wimpffen ensured a bright and sociable atmosphere. The new dance pieces under the title “Telegraph de Carneval” composed by Miss Ringelsberg were successfully executed. To resounding applause Mr Cestari sang two arias, both of which had to be repeated.
