Bohemia 12/2/1850 published news that a cycle of evening musical entertainments [musikalischen Abendunterhaltungen] given by [members of the Institute of] J. Proksch would, as usual, be taking place this year on Sundays in Lent at 5pm in the rooms of that Institute.
The date, time and venue of this event, listed as a ‘Soirée musicale’, were published in the Tagesanzeige texts of Bohemia 1/3/1850 and 3/3/1850.
Bohemia 8/3/1850 published a brief article titled ‘Musikalische Sonntagsabendunterhaltungen’ which began by noting how the ‘streetcorners were littered with invitations and announcements of great concerts, musical Matinées and Soirées for various arts.’ Typical of the musical events of the Lenten season were those of the ‘numerous’ music institutes. Those of the institutes of Jiránek and Proksch in their respective localities were noted to have both assembled ‘very numerous audiences.’ The remainder of this text was primarily concerned with Jiránek’s establishment in the Platýz. About Proksch’s institute the correspondent asserted that it was ‘the magnificent school of Mr Proksch that we have to thank for the education of the highly promising pianist Miss Claus [Klausová], about which in Bohemia we have already mentioned.’ After detailing the teaching methods of Jiránek’s institute, the text concluded by stating that more specific details of the entertainments arranged by both Proksch and Jiránek’s schools would be published when their series were complete.
