Tagesbote aus Böhmen 16/6/1857 published news of this event, noting that on the 18th June ‘will take place in the Garden of the Žofín Island, on remembrance of 18th June 1757 as the day of the Battle at Kolín, a great „Krieger-Fest“, at which a great military tone-picture especially composed for this Festival by Kapellmeister L. Jeschko entitled „Die Schlacht bei Kolín“ will be performed. To close there will be performed a great Brillant-Tableaux. In the case of unfavourable weather the festival will take place on Monday 22nd June.’ The festival took place on either 18th or 19th June; a brief review appeared in Tagesbote aus Böhmen 21/6/1857 reporting that ‘For the Anniversary Commemoration of the Battle of Kolín that took place the day before yesterday [‘Zu dem vorgestern...’ – although through either error or delay in publication, or through the ambiguity of the word ‘vorgestern’ at that time in meaning not just ‘yesterday’ but ‘a day before’, this may still possible be referring to the 18th], the able Kapellmeister played his part through his large tone-poem for military ensemble Die Schlacht bei Kolín“, which was performed on the Žofín Island to great applause.
