Commentary:

News of this event was published in a report, signed ‘n.’ appearing in Prager Morgenpost 25/8/1863. The correspondent related: ‘The attendees on the special train for Brno, in which place the Cyril-Methodius Festival will begin, left Prague yesterday morning at 10 o’clock. The number of passengers was over 200, among which were members of „Sokol“ and „Hlahol“, the band of the first-named Society playing national tunes in the Station, as well as the Hej Slovane! The carriages, nine in number, decorated with garlands, were not over-full. On the station and on the bastion quite a few locals had gathered, at the departure of the carriages calling „Na Zdar!“.’ Among those present the correspondent noted Professor Purkyně ‘and other luminaries of the nation’.
