• Ilchmann's Quartet: participating ensemble

An advertisement was published by Mercy’s Anzeiger 3/10/1854 announcing ‘Every Wednesday: Ilchmann’s Quartet in the Café Retzer, Korngasse [Žitná ulice] nr. 171-2; also available there from 1st October is [the newspaper] Allgemeine Zeitung.’ Both venue and participating ensemble seem to have been new, neither having previously been noted by Mercy’s Anzeiger. The offer of the newspaper was undoubtedly intended as an attraction for customers. The advertisement was repeated in Mercy’s Anzeiger 4/10/1854, and later on 10/10/1854.

The Vergnügungsanzeiger of Mercy’s Anzeiger 13/12/1854 announced: ‘Today Wednesday... in the Retzer’s Café Concert’. No further details were given by this source.
