An advertisement for this event was published by Tagesbote aus Böhmen 1/1/1854 announcing that on Sunday 8th January a musical trial would be given in advance of the forthcoming Society Ball in aid of the Private Society for the Support of the Prague Poor House [Privat-Vereins zur Unterstützung des Hausarmen Prags]. The orchestra at the trial ‘will be the splendid band of the worthy Imperial Regiment Wasa’; performed would be the ‘newest and most interesting pieces.’ The Ball was due to take place on 18th January in the Žofín Hall.

Bohemia 7/1/1854 reported that ‘Tomorrow afternoon takes place in the Hall of Žofín Island the musical trial to the ball given by the Private Society for the Support of the Poor House under the protection of Count Camil Rohan. Although no more specific details about the event were noted by the source, the correspondent anticipated a substantial attendance.
