• Music Institute of Josef Proksch: pupil(s) of institute

An advance report of the annual performance examinations for pupils of Proksch’s Music Institute was published by Bohemia 3/8/1851. The correspondent remarked that the Institute had a well-founded reputation, that the programmes had more than a pedagogical interest, and that the dignified performance of pupils would ensure that a refined audience would attend the event.  Examinations for female and male pupils took place on 4th and 5th August respectively. Between 10am and 1pm elementary and intermediate pupils were tested, in the afternoon between 4pm and 7pm pupils of the higher classes. On 7th August ‘a great examination-production [ein große Prüfungsproduktion’, effectively a concert given by the pupils, took place in the Hall of Žofín Island. Admission tickets to the latter were available from the Institute itself.

The event, its date, time and venue, was listed in the Tagesanzeiger text of Bohemia 3/8/1851. This noted that at 10am pupils of the elementary class were examined, and at 4pm pupils of the higher classes.
