The unsigned Dalibor 1/8/1859 review noted that the examination was considered successful. The students of the Institute for the Blind, comprising 18 boys and 14 girls, were tested in both music and in literary subjects. Mašek and Vrabec respectively played a prelude and a fugue ‘very accurately; both testified to be worthy pupils of their teacher Mr Josef Bezecný. The pupils acquited themselves well singing [the specified choruses].’ Červený and Schindler were rewarded with great applause. Ending the programmme Mašek’s performance of the work by Černý was ‘very elegant and sběhle [? skvělě - magnificent].’ The institute’s teacher, Josef Bezecný, was honoured at the occasion by Prague’s mayor, who in the name of the Emperor presented him with a medal for his work. Leaving the Institute that year were noted to be 2 boys and 2 girls.
