Tagesbote aus Böhmen 5/12/1857 published news of this forthcoming event, reporting: ‘The local „Tonkünstlergesellschaft [Society of Musical Artists]“ is arranging on 23rd December in the Hall of the Sophieninsel [Žofín Island] for the benefit of its Widows- and Orphans-Institute a performance of the Oratorio „Elias [Elijah]“ with the participation of the members of the Žofín Academy, of the Cecilian Society, the pupils of the music Conservatory, the orchestra of the Estates Theatre, and many amateurs. The soloists have been kindly named as the ladies Günther [Güntherová], Panatowič [Panatovičová], Schmidt [Šmidtová], Soukup [Soukupová], then the gentlemen Eminger, Lukes, Steinecke and Strakatý. Tickets are to be found in the Art- and Music-Seller of Christoph and Kuhé and Johann Hoffmann and on the day from the Box Office.’
