Tagesbote aus Böhmen 6/10/1857 reproduced a report – noted as being from Prager Zeitung – upon events given to mark the nameday of the Emperor Franz Joseph, noting: ‘The day before last, on the 4th, at 11am, took place in the Metropolitan Church [St Vitus] for the Celebration of the High Nameday of His Royal Apostolic Majesty, a solemn Mass, at which were present the highest Civil and Military Authorities of the realm and many worshipers from all levels of society.’ No details of the musical content of the occasion were related. The source went on to note that other celebratory events, including at Vyšehrad and on the Bastion were a ceremony involving flags took place.
