• Orchestra of the Prague Civil Sharpshooters Corps: participating orchestra

News published in Bohemia 17/12/1858 first announced this musical rehearsal for the carnival time productions given by the Prague Civil Sharpshooters. The text also noted that dance entertainments, ‘Schützenreunionen’ [Shooters’ reunions], were to be held on 22/01/59 and 12/02/59, and ‘ein eleganter Schützenball’ [an elegant Sharpshooters’ ball] on 7/3/59 in the Žofín Island Hall [Sophieninselsaal].

Prager Morgenpost 1/1/1859 reported the rehearsal for the Ball of the Civil Sharpshooters would take place ‘today’ at 4pm in the Hall of Žofín Island. The record of the event appearing in the Tageskalender of Bohemia 1/1/1859 stipulated that the production would begin at 5pm. The time specified by the Morgenpost report has been used here, given that the text comprised a specific item in the newspaper’s daily news column; the almanac columns of the Tageskalenders were more prone to error.
