An advertisement for this event was published by Národní listy 18/1/1863. The source announced: ‘Committee of the Fellowship in to support Ill Tradesmen [Výbor bratrstva ku podpoře onemocnělých řemeslníků] in Smíchov arranges on 18th January 1863 in aid of that fellowship [a] Society Ball [společenský ples] in the Hall at the Golden Angel, at which performing dance compositions will be „musical ensemble of Sokol“. Commencing at 7 o’clock precisely. Admission tickets may be obtained at the Inn „at the Golden Angel“ in Smíchov and in the Inn „at the Hedgehog“ [u Ježkú] in Prague (Konviktská ulice), including a donation to the good cause, for 1zl.’ No further details of this event were given by the source. Possibly the Ball did not take place on this date – Národní listy 29/1/1863 published a review of a ‘První společenský ples českých řemeslníků’ [First Society Ball of Czech Tradesmen] noted as taking place on 28th January in the Žofín Hall. Interestingly, the source revealed that this later event had had problems obtaining a permit from the police to hold the occasion.
