Národní listy 10/1/1863 published news of a series of ‘Redouty’ [‘Redout’ or ‘redoute’ was a term, common to both Czech and German, for a masked ball]. The source related: ‘Redouty [Redouts]. On Sunday in the New Town Theatre will take place the first masked ball. In total there will be during this year’s Carnival 7 masked balls, specifically the first on Sunday and the last on Shrove Tuesday.’ Theatre bills published by Národní listy in the preceeding days, such as on 20/1/1863 and 24/1/1863, announced ‘On Sunday 25th January takes place the third Masked Ball in the New Town Theatre.’ The Theatre bill appearing in Národní listy 25/1/1863 noted: ‘Today Sunday 25th January takes place third Masked Ball in the New Town Theatre.’

A substantial review of this event was published by Bohemia 27/1/1863. The text almost exclusively described the social entertainment of the event, making no reference to the music performed or the dancing or dance compositions performed.
