Fund for ill Prague Typographers
The Tagesprogramm of Bohemia 27/1/1863 announced: ‘8 o’clock in the evening in the Žofín Island Hall: Typographers’ Ball’ [Typographen-Ball].
Národní listy 27/1/1863 reported in its section of daily news: ‘Ball of Prague Typographers. Today will be taking place in the Hall of Žofín Island the Ball of Prague Typographers, the clear profit from which will be dedicated to the support of ill staff of local printers.’
A review of this event, signed ‘-0-’, was published by the German-language newspaper Prager Morgenpost 3/2/1863. The correspondent remarked: ‘The Typographers’ Ball, which took place on 27th of last month in the Žofín Island Hall, had a really handsome success. The dance society [Tanzgesellschaft - the dancing public present] were in a busy, jovial atmosphere and gave with great alacrity the sporting dance programme. The decor of the dance locale was very tasteful and the choice of beautiful lady dancers was substantial. Several heads of printing companies [Buchdruckereibesitzer] were present as guests. The net profit of the ball, which is bespoken for the sickness fund [Krankenkasse] for ill typographers, is as we report, 400fl. The value of this fund has now a capital of over 2000fl.’ No further details of this event were published by this source.
