Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius. Catholic church built in the Prague suburb of Karlín. The project to build a church in the new Prague suburb of Karlín was initiated in 1850 by the Prague Katolická jednota [Catholic Society]. The foundation stone was laid in 1854 in the presence of the Emperor Franz Josef. Taking 9 years to complete, the church was consecrated on 18/10/1863. Many Prague and more regional societies and institutions as well as individuals contributed to the undertaking, including local Poles and other Slavs who arranged a large scale concert to benefit the cause in 1863.
