Podrobnosti o osobě

Nicolò Isouard

Niccolo

Isouard, Nicolò (1775-1818). Maltese pianist, organist and composer. Despite demonstrating musical talent in his youth he studied engineering and artillery, and first followed a career in commerce and then as a bank clerk. However, during a spell in Italy he gravitated towards the music profession, gaining local success as both a pianist and opera composer. He returned to Malta where he was engaged as organist and later choirmaster to the Order of the Knights of St John. During the island’s occupation by Napoleon he travelled to Paris and quickly established a considerable reputation for his operas, often in successful collaboration with his French contemporaries. Works include over 30 operas, sacred and secular choral music, songs and piano pieces.
