Podrobnosti o osobě

Helena Zawiszanka

Zawiszanka, Helena. Polish soprano singer, member of the German Estates Theatre opera company in Prague during the 1860s. Following her appearance in a benefit concert in the Czech Provisional Theatre on 14/2/1863 Národní listy 16/2/1863 published a brief biography relating: ‘Helena Zawiszanka boasts a celebrated time-honoured name in Polish history. – After receiving her first education in Warsaw she went away with her mother to Milan, where she was taught singing by the most remarkable masters Lamper and Mazzucato, and facial expression [v mimice] by the writer Hubert. After five years of learning she appeared for the first time as prima donna in the Warsaw Theatre.’ Appearing in Italy at La Scala she quickly gained fame for her fiery and expressive performances. She declined an invitation to become prima donna in New York, apparently ‘not wanting to be so distant from her beloved homeland.’
