Antoine de Antoine Chevalier Kontskï

Kątski, Antoni (1817-1899). Polish pianist and composer. Studied piano initially with his father and later in Warsaw, Moscow and Vienna. Court pianist in Berlin between 1851 and 1853, then from 1854-67 he worked in St Petersburg. After a spell in London he moved to New York (1883), where he lived until commencing a world tour during which he died. Besides composing a large oeuvre of salon pieces for piano he wrote in many substantial genres from symphony to opera, chamber music and sacred works.
