Pavel Křížkovský
Křížkovský, Pavel [christened Karel] (1820-1885). Czech composer and choirmaster. Combined his life as a priest and ecclesiastic with activities as a composer, teacher, organist and choir master. Active mainly in Brno he played a key rôle in the developing musical life of the city, especially as the founder of the local Men’s Singing Society. His compositional output was particular notable for his concentration upon vernacular choral works, pioneering for their time and hugely influential in the development of the genre in Czech lands. He also composed a substantial number of works for the church.
