Mořic Mildner

Mildner, Mořic (1812-1865). Czech violinist and teacher. Admitted to the Prague Conservatory as a ten year old. Taught violin by Pixis and Dionys Weber. After the death of the former he became Professor of Violin at that institution in 1842. He was also appointed deputy director of the Conservatory. Also leader of the orchestra of the German Estates Theatre, and had an important role in propagating chamber music performances in Prague. From the time of his playing second violin in an invitation quartet in Prague in 1837 he often appeared in quartet productions, culminating in his own series of very successful chamber concerts in the 1860s. He conducted orchestral concerts in Prague in 1861 to critical acclaim when the Conservatory’s then director was indisposed. He indulged occasionally in composition, producing a few salon piano works as well as some violin pieces.
