Podrobnosti o osobě

Domenico Scarlatti

Scarlatti, Domenico (1685-1757). Italian harpsichordist, organist, teacher and composer. A member of an established Naples musical family, his early life was passed in Italy where he gained his musical education and became renowned as a harpsichordist and teacher. He spent much of his mature life in Portugal and Spain where he was music teacher in both Royal courts. His output as a composer, although including operas, liturgical music, cantatas and symphonias, is headed by his phalanx of progressive and highly individual sonatas for the harpsichord. The latter consituted the genre for which Scarlatti would have been known in middle-nineteenth-century Prague, occasional sonatas being performed in piano concerts.
