Podrobnosti o instituci / spolku

Name: Piano Institute of Ignác Jelínek

Commentary:
Piano Institute of Ignác Jelínek, initially located at no.273 Mostecká ulice [Bridge Street] in the Malá strana. According to Lumír 15/10/1857, p.1002 it gained permission to open on 6/11/1855, although the periodical text noted  it was not a particularly excellent institution. Lessons were noted to cost 4 zl per annum. Later the school evidently enjoyed public favour since Jelínek successfully applied to open a further piano institute in Smíchov in 1862. This was confirmed by news published in Prager Morgenpost 12/4/1863, which reported: ‘The opening of the newly established Music Institute of Mr Ignaz Jelínek takes place on 1st May 1863 in the suburb of Smíchov.’ The original venue still operated as part of the Institute in 1863, Prager Morgenpost 19/7/1863 noting that the Institute’s annual performance examinations were being given there.
